Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on Tuesday that Italy will call for a worldwide truce during the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Speaking at the 12th Italy–Latin America and Caribbean Conference in Rome, Tajani said, “We must be champions of peace. We support the U.S. plan for Gaza, and as Pope Leo has said, we must never give up hoping for peace.”
Tajani emphasized that Rome and Italy are becoming key crossroads for peace, development, and growth, adding that Italy will present a proposal to the United Nations for an Olympic Truce covering all conflicts, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East.
