In the first half of 2025, Portugal’s Public Security Police (PSP) reported that 1,250 foreign citizens were denied entry into the country. This action was a result of routine border control operations conducted at Portugal’s major airports, which saw over 9.5 million passengers screened during the six-month period.
Beyond simply denying entry, the PSP also carried out significant enforcement activities. Authorities recorded 314 arrests related to document fraud and initiated 77 judicial expulsion proceedings and 23 coercive removal proceedings. Furthermore, precautionary measures were imposed in over 6,000 cases, 142 individuals received voluntary return assistance, and the police registered 150 applications for international protection.
